Our Mushroom Project - Madarch Tŷ Cynan Mushrooms
To ensure we could offer the highest-quality fresh ingredients; and that our Lion’s Mane mushroom teas were made from the very best; we partnered with the mushroom experts at Madarch Cymru and became involved in their research projects.
Together, we’ve established three mushroom-growing units across West Wales: in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Gwynedd. Located at the heart of their communities, these units aim to bring local economic, social, and environmental benefits. We currently grow Lion’s Mane, Shiitake, and Wood Oyster mushrooms.
The project was awarded funding, in part, due to its innovative approach of transforming a commercial enterprise into a community-centred initiative, with a focus on fostering Welsh language use within communities across the ARFOR region.
Our additional intention is to support the food and drink sector in Wales by producing high value commercial exotic mushrooms which have health benefits and high nutritional benefits too. We have employed six mushroom growers to join our team and we encourage the use of the Welsh language in our workplace. Our team have benefited from training with Cynan Jones of Madarch Cymru who has been growing the exotic mushrooms for many years and has a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Each growing unit is called ' Tŷ Cynan' to honour his work and legacy.
Growing our own mushrooms means we can lower our food miles and reduce our carbon footprint as we blend Lion's Mane mushrooms in our brightening tea along with other natural locally-sourced ingredients.
Our gourmet mushrooms are available to order fresh or dried. Please get in touch if you’d like to make a purchase or have any questions.
We’re grateful to have received funding from Cronfa Her Arfor, administered by Mentera, which has made this project possible.
